AUGUST - DENTAL MONTH

July 14th, 2005
AUGUST IS DENTAL MONTH

Pet dental month provides an opportunity for pet lovers to concentrate on their pet’s often neglected oral health.

The Lost Dogs´ Home veterinary clinic is participating by offering FREE DENTAL CHECKS and other specials to help improve your pets health.

Surveys consistently show over 80% of all pets have some form of treatable dental disease. Bad breath, reddened or bleeing gums, reluctance to eat hard foods and bones are all indicators of dental disease.

Over time, food particles and bacteria build up in the mouth forming plaque. This leads to infection and inflammation in the gums (gingivitis). This infection eventually attacks the teeth and their surrounding structures casuing pain, loosening and loss of teeth (peridontitis). Chronic infection in the gums also spreads via the blood to damage other organs such as the heart and kidneys.

Cats suffer from a unique and painful dental disease, there the crown of the tooth is gradually eroded (FORL-Feline Odoentoclastic Resoprtive Lesions).

A few easy steps to help prevent dental disease;
Firstly, examination and treatment of current problems;
Secondly, a home dental care plan that includes a dental friendly diet and other dental aids.
Finally, regular checkups are essential.

Please, make an appointment at Lost Dogs´ Home Veterinary Clinic for your FREE dental check, week days during August, Pet Dental Health month. Remember pets can’t express their pain in the same manner as humans, and natural selection in ancestral dogs has ensured that they actually hide pain from potential predators.
