Microchips

A microchip next to a 5c piece
The Lost Dogs´ Home scans for all Microchips. The Home has purchased an Avid Power Tracker to scan for Destron and Avid microchips. At present approximately 1% of the dogs admitted to the Home have been found to have a microchip, we would like to see that increase dramatically.
The microchip is a silicon chip that is injected under the skin of the dog or cat along the back between the shoulders (where a pet would normally be vaccinated). There is no need for an anaesthetic for this procedure. The chip, when scanned by a reader will show a unique 10 digit number. The details of the pet are recorded on our National Pet Register.
Having your pet permanently identified by microchip also means that you will receive a reduced fee for registration at your local council.
The Lost Dogs´ Home’s veterinary clinic can arrange for you to have your pet microchipped. We also attend special microchipping days.
Please note that in some states like NSW, microchipping is compulsory.
